Reading Recap – 101 Books in 1001 Days

I feel like I’m catching up on my reading these days, which is kind of nice. I went through a dry spell for several months in the winter/spring where I hardly read anything, which doesn’t happen very often for me. This is my second reading recap since I’ve started my new 101 Books in 1001 Days list.

Beach Reads

Forgotten – Catherine McKenzie (3/5) Typical beach read I guess?  It was good for a quick read and entertaining, even if it had some eye-roll worthy moments.

Wildfire in His Arms – Johanna Lindsey (4/5) Books like this are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Quick reads that I enjoy, but I usually end up rating them 2 or 3 stars. I liked this one though! It was a “typical” historical romance story line, but the characters were better developed than you often see. I finished this one in an evening.

King Con – Stephen Cannell (4/5) I first read this book when I was probably 12 or 13. And then I read it over and over and over. It’s been years since I picked it up, so I decided it was time for a re-read. Still love it, though I see some things differently as an adult (you can really tell it was by a male author). I love the attention to detail with the cons that are carried out through the story. Definitely recommend it.

Books I Can Read With My Kids

The Jolly Postman – Janet & Allan Ahlberg (5/5) I’ve always loved this book. I had it as a kid, and it was one of the first ones I bought for K after he was born. More often than not, he brings me this book now when I’m home for story time.

Authors I’ve Never Read Before

Station Eleven – Emily St. John Mandel (2/5) I’d heard a lot of good things about this book, but it really missed the mark for me. It was boring, and every time it touched on a potentially interesting plotline, it meandered away in the least interesting direction possible. The author tried to connect several characters through Shakespeare and a random comic book, but it just wasn’t working for me. And then it ended. I read it on my kobo, so I really had a huh? moment when all of a sudden the story was done, since I had no idea I was close to the end. I’d recommend passing on this one.

Freebies

Red Seas Under Red Skies  and  The Republic of Thieves – Scott Lynch
(4/5) and (3/5)
Still loving this series, even if Thieves dragged a bit. I’m looking forward to the next one in the series. Added these ones to the Freebie list.

I read a few others in the last two months that didn’t “fit” with my list, but I’m still happy with my progress. My total now is 11/101.
