I’ve spent the last couple of days trying to decide on which book challenges I’m going to participate in this year. I’ve considered several, including Beat the Backlist, the Read Harder Challenge, and the Cross Canada Challenge. Then I found this: The Master List of 2018 Reading Challenges.
Then I got overwhelmed.
Why am I doing this to myself?
Don’t get me wrong, there are some fantastic reading challenges out there. But getting caught up in excitement that comes with the start of the new year and all the shiny, new challenges that are starting…is probably just setting myself up for failure.
At the end of the day, I like to read what I want to read, when I want to read it. Not only that, but I’ve been consciously making an effort to simplify things in other areas of my life. So why am I trying to complicate something that I kind of enjoy just the way it is?
In the end, I’ve decided to keep things simple.
I still have my Read the North, 101 Books in 1001 Days which is going to span close to three years, so I have plenty of time and not too much pressure. And I’ve set a goal for myself on Goodreads of 60 books for the year (because if you’re on Goodreads, how can you not set this?).
But other than that? I think I’m going to skip the challenges this year and just enjoy reading for the sake of reading.
I’m happy to announce that A Simple Something has joined the Indigo affiliates program! This means that if you click a link on this website which leads to Indigo.ca and then make a purchase, A Simple Something will earn a small comission, at no extra cost to you. I’m excited to now be a part of this program!
