101 in 1001

101-Adventures3

Here it is! My fourth 101 in 1001 list, which I’ve been working hard on for the last month. I’m pretty excited with how it has turned out, and I’m excited to get started.

If you’ve never heard of the 101 Things in 1001 Days challenge before, here’s a little bit of background about the project, which originated on the Day Zero website:

The Challenge:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple challenges such as New Year’s resolutions or a ‘Bucket List’. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.

I’m changing things up a little bit this time around. I’ve decided to stay away from more mundane “things” on this list, and instead have replaced “things” with “adventures”.

And by adventures I don’t necessarily big, complicated travels that span the globe – I’ve tried to choose a mix of things, including a lot of “everyday adventures” that I can do with my family. I’ve really tried to focus on the experiences we will enjoy together and remember for a long time to come.

It’s so easy sometimes to get caught up in the chaos of life, all the commitments and craziness, and the things you feel like you have to get done, and you can forget about the simple things or put them on the back burner. My goal with this list is not to forget about those simple things and to really carve out the time to spend with my family doing and adventuring and enjoying life.

You can see my initial blog post for this 101 list here.

So here’s the list: 101 Adventures in 1001 Days
